All Components updated with new Certificate

Yes, it is that time of the year again.

Today we released an update of all our IT2BE Components.
They are all signed using a new certificate.

To make life (a little) easier for you and for us the certificate is valid for 3 years instead of 2 years and expires May 13th 2015.

Free IT2BE Components are now Open Source

We have a pretty big announcement to make :)

As of today (effective immediately) our free IT2BE Components for Servoy are now Open Source.

For those that are not familiar with our free Components they are:

- Barcode Plug-in (and Bean)
- Cryptor Plug-in
- Fax Plug-in
- FTP Plug-in
- Splash Plug-in
- Tools Plug-in

There are several reasons to make this move but the most important ones are:

1. So that you, fellow Servoy Developers, can help me make these Components better and better.
2. So that bugs and features (and hopefully suggestions for code changes) can be implemented faster.
3. So that I get my hands free for better support on my Commercial Components.
4. So that I get my hands free to honor more consultancy requests.

This step means that some things change and some don't.
You can read more about this below:

- You will still download the above mentioned Components through our Components Manager.
- You do not need to (request and) use a license key anymore (no need to remove the code either, the registration method is deprecated and not gone).
- The Open Source Components are not obfuscated anymore.
- You can now download the source code from ServoyForge for evaluation or for you to use (under the terms of the FreeBSD License).
- We can not honor support requests through our own Helpdesk System anymore for these Components (unless you want us to give you paid support). Instead use ServoyForge.

That is about it for now.
I do hope that you are as exited about this as we are and I do hope that many of you participate in improving the mentioned Components to bring them to a new level.

Update Components Manager available

Today we updated our Components Manager.

Until today you could only use the Beta Update Server Location by starting up the Components Manager from the command line.
But now you can also run and switch from the final update location to the beta (or legacy) update location while running the Components Manager.
This makes the Components Manager easier to use.

We also updated the links in the help menu and updated the user manual.

Today we released a new Beta of the Calendar Bean.

Servoy Announcement: Support for Servoy 4 to be Discontinued - Dec 20

In the August 2011 Newletter Servoy announces that their support for Servoy 4 will be discontinues per December 20, 2011.

As always we will follow but their move and discontinue support for Servoy 4 for our Components as well.

Last week we already updated all our sample solutions from Servoy 4 to Servoy 5 to give you a better experience on both Servoy 5 and Servoy 6.
With that move we decided to move all our Servoy 4 compatible sample solutions to the download section of our website.
So, the sample solution will remain to be available.
I think that that is it for now.
We will keep backward compatibility (back to Servoy 4) for our Components intact as long as possible but without guarantees.

Calendar Bean v3.0 beta build 195 available now

[fix] switching views and calendar type does not change (last) selected date anymore

[fix] when setting the column width so that the horizontal scrollbar is needed the vertical scrollbar does not disappear anymore

Calendar Bean v3 can now broadcast Event changes

Today we uploaded a new beta of Calendar Bean v3.

We are very excited about this release because we added the possibility to broadcast adding of new Events, changing Events and removing Events to all clients that have the Calendar Bean open.

Today we managed again to squeeze out new beta versions of the following Components:

- Calendar Bean: improved allday area and fixed support for iCalendar recurring rules.
- Gantt Bean: improved support for drag 'n drop between 2 versions of the Bean.
- Tools Plug-in: we added creating a file on the server side.

Please be aware that a new certificate is used so you can not mix it with older (released) Components.

Today we released new beta versions of the following Components:

- Calendar Bean: further improved the way the bean works. We are getting close to a final release now :)
- Gantt Bean: added support for drag 'n drop between 2 versions of the Bean.
- Data Plug-in: expanded setting of cell borders of an Excel sheet.
- Exchange Plug-in: added ExchangeWS Plug-in for MS Exchange 2007 and 2010.

Servoy 6 and the Components Manager

Those of you that can play with Servoy 6 Alpha may have seen an issue with our Components Manager not recognizing the Developer Licenses.
We were able to make a few changes to solve the issue and we uploaded version 1.5-023 to our website.

Signature horror

I am not sure what happened yet (the CA will give us more information later today) but it looks like there was an issue with one server preventing Macs only (?) from certifying a request.

It only seems to have occurred for maybe one or two hours.
Which makes this an even stranger event.

We will do our best to solve this permanently with either our current CA or with a new one!

Apologies to all that were surprised by this.

It was real fun to catch up with you all.

When you have an issue downloading or licensing our components...

It is time to update because you must have missed the last update(s).

In December 2009 we decided to move the license system away from our main website but kept the old links in place.
In August 2010 we moved from it2be.com to servoycomponents.com and again, we kept the old links in place.

In December 2010 we updated the Components Manager to use the new links only so that we can stop maintaining old links.

This weekend we dismantled it2be.com completely. It is now nothing more than a referrer to servoycomponents.com.

Because of the many changes we made the last couple of weeks we created a new Component Manager.

Nothing spectacular (for you) but an essential update. At least for those using Servoy 5.

The old version should still work but you are encouraged to download this new version to be prepared for future changes.

Calendar Bean v3.0 Beta 7 released today

Today we released Beta 7 of Calendar Bean v3.0.

Big difference with earlier releases is the implementation of the Gantt View which was more work than we thought.

Changes are:

Beta 7
[new] 'calendarCategoryColumnWidth' is now scriptable as well
[new] implemented getCalendarColumnAreaWidth(...) to get the width of the date area (without, when visible, 'west header' and width of vertical scrollbar)
[new] added Gantt View
[fix] categories would not show up on second startup in Developer
[fix] corrected issue with Calendar and Gantt date 'alignment'

Beta 6 (silent release)
[new] added property 'calendarCategoryColumnWidth' to set the width of the category columns (0 fits in panel, > 0 sets horizontal scrollbar)
[new] added property 'showInCategoryHeader' to JSCategory (default = true). When false it will not show up in a filtered calendar
[new] added (scriptable) property 'calendarAllDayAreaEnabled' to enable/disable moving of events in the allday area
[chg] when the calendar time interval is < 15 minutes times will be show every 2nd row (instead of each row)
[fix] corrected issue with wrong expansion on init of the calendar
[fix] corrected issue with expanding and expandingDeep

Today we made a bold move.

We decided to start using our domain names with servoy in the name like servoycomponents, servoyplugins, servoybeans and the many variations of it.

Nothing else is new ( we changed our website last week so that is not new anymore ;) ).

Lower prices for HTMLeditor, LDAPclient and Outlook Plug-in

Today we lowered our prices for three popular Plug-ins.

We made the prices of the HTMLeditor, LDAPclient and Outlook client more attractive by calculating a discount that ranges from 30% to 70% of the previous price.

Maintenance fees changed accordingly and the good news is that this also applies to current clients.
So, when you already own such a component your next yearly payment will be lower than what you were used to.

New website

Last week we have worked hard to update our Servoy Components website.

It is a completely new website with a new design and, we hope you agree, easier navigation.

As you can see we made the menu structure easier and better.
Version information is now always available on the component page and Release Notes now have their own tab.
We also made summary pages for Plug-ins and for Beans.

When you take a look on our Support Page you will notice that the knowledgebase is absent.
We decided to move the information (when available) from our Support System to a FAQ tab on the Components pages.
In the next couple of weeks you will probably see 'FAQ' tabs appearing for more products and/or more FAQ's added.

Updated Components Manager

Today we released Version 1.2 of our Components Manager for Servoy 4/5.

When you use v1.2 of the Components Manager it will check for you if the version of Servoy is pre 4.1.6 or pre 5.1.2 and will, in that case, remove the security settings from the JNLP after downloading.
This should solve the issue the issue of mixing our signed Components with unsigned Servoy libraries.

Additionally we released updated versions of our Components for all Servoy versions mainly including updated JNLP files (see remarks Johan on the Servoy Forum).
